Is a physical Server mandatory for license management of CATIA V5?
It depends on the license type you use.
- Nodelock License
- Concurrent License
Here, let’s review what a Nodelock License and a Concurrent License mean.
1. Nodelock License is..
⇒ A license issued and installed for the specific local computer. You can use CATIA V5 only on this specific computer.
*Licenses are managed on the computer (a workstation) for which CATIA V5 is installed.
*A LAN connection error does not affect the usage of CATIA V5. (Can use CATIA V5)
2. Concurrent License is..
⇒A license is issued and installed for the specific physical server. You can use CATIA V5 on any computer with the CATIA V5 application installed within the same LAN.
*Licenses are managed by a DSLS server installed on a physical server.
*In the event of a LAN connection error, access to the license server will be interrupted. (Can NOT use CATIA V5)
If we choose a Concurrent License for CATIA V5, is a physical server mandatory to manage the licenses?
We recommend managing a Concurrent License of CATIA V5 on a physical server.
Can we use a workstation for the license management instead of a physical server, instead?
We do NOT recommend managing a Concurrent License of CATIA V5 on a workstation.
We recommend managing a Concurrent License of CATIA V5 on a physical server because of the following reasons.
- Stability and Availability
- The license server must be continuously operational. A physical server is designed for 24/7 operation and has high hardware and software stability. This ensures that the provision of licenses is uninterrupted and always available.
- High Availability (HA) and Fault Tolerance
- A physical server can ensure high availability and fault tolerance by using redundancy and backup functions. If the license server goes down, it will affect client license authentication, so by operating on a server with these functions, interruptions to service can be minimized.
- On the other hand, a workstation primary provides high-performance calculations and graphic processing (such as for CATIA) and are intended for use by individual users. It is not designed for 24/7 operation, and doesn’t provide as high an availability as a physical server.
I understand that we should prepare a physical server for a DSLS server to manage a Concurrent License of CATIA V5.
Thank you!
