Hello~
We’re interest in migration to 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA (V6).
Do you have a server at your site?
Yes we do.
Is a server necessary for 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA (V6)?
Yes. A server is a must when you consider 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA (V6).
3DEXPERIENCE CATIA (V6) operates using a database in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, unlike CATIA V5 which is file-based, so it requires high system durability.
*For further details about the differences between “database” and “filebase”, you can find it at our previous blog article.
Thus, you need a server for the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform.
*For further details about “the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform”, you can find it at our previous blog article.
Even if there is only one 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA (V6) user, you need a dedicated server for 3DEXPERIENCE Platform aside from a workstation for 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA (V6).
Is it possible to use a workstation of CATIA V6 for the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform instead of a server?
No. You cannot use a workstation of CATIA V6 instead of a server for the 3DEXPELREINCE Platform.
[Reasons]
- Dassault Systèmes doesn’t support this usage. (CATIA V6 and the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform support different OS.)
*Servers are designed to run 24/7 and to never be turned off. That is the difference between a regular computer or workstation and a server.
I see.
We currently use a server at our site. Can we use this existing server for the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform?
Well, we need the investigation before we judge it.
1. Check the spec of your current server.
2. Check your requirement. (ex. How you would like to use 3DEXPERIENCE Platform)
3. Define the spec to meet your requirement. (There are a lots of function that 3DEXPERIENCE Platform support.)
I understand that we should set up a new server for 3DEXPERIENCE Platform to secure the stability of its performance.
Yes~!!!
And, 3DEXPERIENCE server supports various VM, OS and database as listed below, depending on your requirements.
[Virtual Machine (VM) Hypervisor]:
✓Suported
① Hewlett Packard Enterprise
② VMware
③ Microsoft Hyper-V
[Operating System (OS)]
✓Suported
① Redhat Linux
② SUSE
③ Windows Server
[Database]
✓Suported
① Oracle Database
② Microsoft SQL Database
I understand it!
We will consult with you when setting up 3DEXPERIENCE Platform server.
